Madrid, 6th June 1848

My Dear Sir,

I thank you for your note of my outgoings since the commencement of April, and you notice of Mr. Wiffen calling on you and getting the money well explains what I enquired about on that score.

I have now to beg you to send to Mr Wiffen the sum of Fifty Pounds, on account of Mr Usoz, and to place the same to my Travelling Account.

            Believe me, Very Truly Yours,

                                    James Thomson.

My Dear Sir,

Have the goodness on receiving this note to remit Fifty Pounds to Mr. Wiffen, on the part of Mr. Usoz, and charge the same to my Private Account.

The £3:17:7 sent you by Mr. Black of Halifax N.S. goes to my Private Account, being the proceeds of sale of my own books, not Bibles. A Box is shipped for me by Mr. Black per the Adelaide, and on its arrival, please send it to Messrs Partridge and Oakey, 34 Paternoster Row, to whom I write respecting it.

Enclosed are two letters for the Cape of Good Hope. They are Original and Duplicate, Be so good as see, and with all care, that they are sent by different ships, the Duplicate of course last.

In these letters is a Bill of exchange on you at the order of the party for whom the letters are, dated this day, at 30 days sight, for Sixty Pounds. Be so good as take a note of it, as it will likely be presented some six months hence.

Mr. Brandram's letter of the 13th November, and Mr Jackson's of the 28th with Invoice, are received.

            Yours Very Truly,

                        James Thomson.

P.S. Along with the letter lately received from Mr Burnet, some Cape newspapers were sent. Have they appeared at Earl Street, if so please to forward them.
